The ROCKSTEAD SHIN-ZDP is one of the longest-running and most highly regarded folding models in the Rockstead line. Its broad, mirror-polished blade, distinctive handle construction, and carefully judged balance have made it a long-standing favorite among Rockstead owners and collectors. The blade uses a ZDP-189 core clad in VG-10 stainless steel and is hardened to approximately 67 HRC. Rockstead’s Honzukuri geometry forms a continuous convex grind that extends to the edge apex without a distinct secondary bevel. This construction provides substantial support behind the edge while allowing the mirror-polished convex surfaces to pass through material with low resistance. The blade pivots on precisely fitted bronze washers. Each pivot is individually hand-lapped and tuned, giving the knife exceptionally smooth and controlled action throughout both opening and closing. As the mechanism breaks in with use, the action becomes even more fluid and can rival the smoothness of some bearing pivots, while retaining a refined movement and a distinctly satisfying mechanical feel. The hard-anodized A6063 aluminum scales feature distinctive machined texturing and stingray inlays—one of the defining visual and tactile details of the SHIN design. The combination gives the handle a strong individual identity while providing a secure, natural feel across a wide range of grip positions. A liner lock secures the blade in the open position and preserves the clean, balanced profile of the handle.
